Am I A Hater?

haterade

So, there’s this blogger. She is one of the most popular female humor bloggers on the internet. She gets A LOT (700!) of likes on her posts and has like, some sort of New York Times best seller book thing going on. Here’s the thing: I don’t always think she is THAT funny. That’s all. She is funny but I’m just over that whole “I’m so crazy, look at all my meds!” humor. She also writes about cocaine. GASP. I think that is so very edgy, but also so very 5 years ago.

Now, to put things into perspective, she is like Beyonce of blogging and I am Nina Taylor, the girl who didn’t make the cut into Destiny’s Child. So it’s kinda like Nina walking around saying Beyonce can’t dance. I GET IT. But here’s my question: am I a hater for not thinking she is as awesome as other people think she is or do I just have refined taste?

I just want to know what you think. And here are some additional facts: I NEVER, ever leave negative anonymous comments. I have dignity and will not succumb to the troll brotherhood.

And, as I was writing this, Vinny walked in, read the title outloud and answered yes. I hope that doesn’t influence your answer.

Bottom line: AM I A HATER? Circle yes or no. Or leave a comment because wouldn’t want you circling your computer screen.

I am just so glad you are writing again. I am not familiar with the blogger that you are referring to, but we don’t have to like everyone. I just read something like this: Fashion: wearing what everyone is wearing. Style: wearing your own thing. I am going to say that you are not a Hater. You just have style!!!

I don’t think you’re a hater! I think people tend to throw that word around as a meaningless defense: “You don’t like me? Then you’re just a hater.” (Like, what does that even mean??) To better make my point, this is what Urban Dictionary says:
“Overused word that people like to use just because someone else expresses a dislike for a certain individual.

    PERSON 1: I don’t like Beyonce’s new song.

    PERSON 2: You’re a hater!!!”

(Note the Beyonce example they used, hah.) Haters gon’ hate (but you’re not one o’ them).

I don’t know who you’re referring to either, but I think defining hate (for me) is seeing why you don’t like what that person is doing. If you just disagree with/don’t like her writing style and topics then no, of course you’re not a hater. If you don’t like her because somewhere inside you have a twinge of jealousy in her accomplishments then yes my dear you are officially a hater. Im sure that you aren’t though 🙂 oh and I completely agree with Tracy’s comment about fashion and style!!

Having opinions doesn’t make you a hater. There are a lot of people getting more attention for unoriginal or substandard work than those who have something intelligent to say. The power of influence can often be heavier than the power of self esteem but I still choose the latter.
